The Onoz lake symbolises the archetype of a lake which is silling up. The evolution of its surface between 1892 (4,2 acres), 1986 (3,7 acres) and 2004 (3,4 acres) corroborates this phenomenon.
Without human intervention, any stretch of water undergoes a natural process of progressive silting and invasion of vegetation which will turn it first into a marsh, then a meadow and finally, a forest. Onoz can be considered to a marsh from now on.
