Situated : at North, Pont de Poitte / At South, Vouglans-Menouillé.
Origin : dam
Area : 1600 Ha.
Length : 35 km
Width : de 300 à 800 m.
Depth : Max 100 m. /Moyenne 37,8 m.
Altitude : 400 m
At a bend in a road, you will find a panoramic viewpoint. In front of you, a meandering lake surrounded by forested hills extends majestically to the horizon. You are not in Canada, you are in the Jura, in front of lake Vouglans. ! Third largest dam reservoir in France with its length of 35 km and its width of 450 m. Situated at the South, the dam is impressing with its 130 m. height.
It was flooded in 1968, covering the Ain valley. Its turquoise blue water will make you forget the destiny of the villages and the Vaucluse charterhouse sunk at the bottom of the former valley. Today, the lake is a paradise for swimmers, fishers, walkers and lovers of water activities.
The lake is divided into 3 areas: fishing, motor boating and sailing zone.

• Port of Saisse

It is located north of the lake at Pont de Poitte, and welcomes more especially fishing boats.

Due to its location at the level of the Pyle Bridge (motor boating zone), it is intended for accommodating motor boats.

Installed in the Maisod sailing zone, it is more adapted to mooring sailboats. Tel: 03 84 42 03 32.
Activities :
Fishing: in Pont de Poitte, Ain river feeds the lake and creates a zone full of fish: pikeperch, carp, pollan, rudd, roach, bream and perch…
Bathing: there are 3 supervised beaches in lake Vouglans:
Beach of Surchauffant in La Tour du Meix.
Beach and nautic basis of Bellecin (near Orgelet).
Beach of Mercantine in Maisod
Other nautic activities:
cruises (Boat « Le Louisiane ». Departure from Port of Meix), water skiing, canoe, rowing, windsurfing, catamaran, motor boat and pedalo rental.
